Oscar Levant

... was an American pianist and composer of popular music. He was more famous for his mordant character and witticisms, on the radio and in films and television, than for his music. A friend of George Gershwin, he composed the music for more than twenty films between 1929 and 1948. He also wrote or co–wrote many popular songs, including Blame It on My Youth (1934), now considered a standard.

Wikiquote attributes this, his most famous quote, to his 1965 autobiography, The Memoirs of an Amnesiac. It's often misattributed (in a paraphrased version) to Groucho Marx.

Oscar Levant died in 1972, aged 65.
